Tissue Engineering

In tissue engineering, we understand the breeding and implantation of the body’s tissues. In orthopaedics, for the treatment of cartilage damage the growth of cartilage cells and their implantation is currently the cutting edge. The treatment of cartilage damage is of great importance, because the progression of cartilage degradation and osteoarthritis can be prevented. Our joint practice has its own biotechnical clean laboratory and can therefore generate cartilage cells of high quality.

Autologous Chondrozytentransplantation (ACT)

In so-called Autologous Chondrozytentransplantation (ACT), the cartilage cells taken from patients are taken to in a pharmaceutical laboratory and regenerated. The newly-created three-dimensional cartilage cushions will fit into the damaged area. Circumscribed cartilage defects of 3-4 centimeters square can be repaired with the help of this biotechnological procedure. The regenerated cartilage tissue is usually fully hardened in about 12 months.
